Now I have a little treat here, because two separate and independent sources are very much saying the same thing for what 2014 is going to look like. This allows us to have a better idea of what is planned for next year.

Space Wolves, Orks, and Imperial Guard make up the bulk of the year.

Of course this does not go into codex supplements, or expansions, or a campaign, but gives us a good run down of both Warhammer Fantasy and 40k. I cannot stress enough that plans can change, sometimes at the drop of a hat. (like tyranids are about to).

Also notice that there is room at the end of the year for another codex release. Perhaps they are waiting to see if a codex release does well in December.

Please remember that these are rumors.

    1. Yeah, that's pretty much a given, distributors already have schedules that far out and have confirmed it.

  2. A New Dwarf and Elves Armybook 6 months before 9th Edition gets out...

Fake?, weird stuff? or GW logic?

    1. The new books are writen with 9th in mind. Same with Triumph and Treachery.

Rumors that the army books are going to be dropped in 9th are wrong, or at least misunderstood. They will be having a mini booklet with new rules for Beastmen and Skaven but all hard backs will be legit.

    2. Necrons got the same. Can't say they are struggling all that much :P

  4. That was my thought too, i am still half expecting the December rug to be pulled out from under us :(

  5. Wolves in time for the prospero book in September, a 1k sons sup would be nice around the same time.

    No blood angels though!

    1. I take it we'll get a 1k Sons sup the same month as the wolves.

As for blood angles; I bet they will be one of the last codices, which is why they got the digi dex not long ago.

    2. The digi dex had no changes as far as I was told. My Blood Angels are really struggling on the battlefield. Was hoping that I atleast had a shimmer of hope for a release in 2014

    3. yea, i was disappointed about the angels not being on this list. i was looking forward to having both of my rival's armies updated in the same year (blood angels/wolves). Well, at least he can look forward to new space vikings.

    3. I just want some new plastic toys to love and abuse...namely Asdrubael Vect and the other missing HQ characters (including a new Drazhar as that model is old and ugly and does not fit with the range), a super size Dias of Destruction and of course the lovely Void Raven Bomber, plus plastic wracks, grotesques, haemonculi, incubi and whatever else I've forgotten!!!

      That is all

  7. Why complain about BA? An over-powered codex deserves to get pushed back. Orks and IG are a bit late if you ask me, aswell as WE and Dwarves.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. BA are one of the worst codexes out right now, and definitley the worst power armor codex. Can you elaborate on how they are overpowered?

      Delete
    2. @Ian Johnson: They aren't over-powered, but the people who don't know anything are stuck in mid-to-late 5th edition. I see people STILL complaining about Grey Knights and Space Wolves as though 5-men in a box spammed is a viable strategy (which it isn't).

It's clear that most of the complainers don't keep up with the current times. Those same individuals still talk like GW takes 7-8 months between codex releases.

    3. @ Emc16

Blood Angel players deserve to be punished for having to endure a piss poor hack job written by that cretin Ward?

      Delete
    4. Back in fifth, BA were great. Now the overcosted units are main reason why BA struggle hard to be competitive. The codex itself is excellent, and Ward did a great job with it. Just like with Necrons and GK.
That's just pure Ward hate talking.

      Delete
    5. It's where the hatred started certainly, I am and always have been a fluff player, I don't give a damn about flying land raiders or whatever else is good or bad at tournaments. He made such a mess of what fluff existed for no reason other than he could and I'm not even takin about the BA/Necron stuff, he got the black rage/ red thirst backwards ffs. All Blood angels suffer the black rage and only when lost to it does the thirst manifest and then ur in the death Co. and on that note how about replacing the origin of the thirst/rage to Sanguinius had his knees done in and we got angry over it. And as for the flying land raiders if memory serves his codex has the entire chapter runnin off 3 thunder hawk transporters so good luck with that.

  8. My gut tells me Dark Eldar at the end of the year. Might finally have a Vect Model. Then following year Blood Angels, Necrons and Grey Knights. But thats just a very good guess on my behalf.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I would love to see Dark Eldar coming this time next year, but I would not expect them until 2015.

      Delete
    2. I think Blood Angels need an update before Dark Eldar, and they deserve one before the Space Wolves as well. I have Space Wolves and I know Blood Angels are hurting more currently that Space Wolves. Dark Eldar can run a pretty competitive list right not especially with Eldar allies. I would hope the last four in order would go Blood Angels, Grey Knights, Dark Eldar then Necrons.

      Delete
    3. be carfull what you wish for with BAs... DAs got an update. Go ask a DA player about it.

      Delete
    4. Still a better codex than what DA used to have imo.
Sadly there are just better codices out there.

If you ask me they shouldn't have released the Dark Angles codex, it would have been so much easier to give them the Black Templar treatment before they got a myriad of unique models.
Give them a Chapter Tactic and then have their HQs release Terminators as Troops (heck they don't even need a named character for bike as troops if they were in the SM dex.)

Sure it could have made Dark Angles more "bland" but it would mean one less codex to update. (And DA was the easiest as it had probably very few unique models pre 6th... but oh well

      Delete
    5. I doubt Blood Angels will have a new codex any time soon even though the book is dated. The army has a near complete model range and has access to a flyer.

The model range with holes in them like Nids and Guard seem to be given priority over codex age.

  9. What about Hobbit? Not that I care but wont that be Jan?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hobbit will still be December for the movie release. It's just GW didn't want to have the entire month dedicated to it incase if sales weren't good for it. Thus was the reason things moved a month earlier like Tyranids for december rather than january.

      Delete
    2. I also think GW can't really preview The Hobbit or leak rumors per the contract with New Line/Tolkien Enterprises.

      Delete
    3. I also think that the hobit sells that well, but that is just my interpretation of what i notice about the effort and attention it receives the whole year round.

      Delete
  10. I can only hope that this holds true. I understand that Orks need an update, and that Iggies need to have their fliers hit hard with the nerf bat (though I am less optimistic about that considering the cost of the Valkyrie in the Inquisition book) but waiting till August to see my Space Wolves FINALLY get anti-air and a flier is a bit tough to swallow. Should have gotten that shit with the flier supplement back in March.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Eddie on FB strongly hinted that the reason for the digital format is that they can make necessary adjustments inline with other codexes so IG flyers could still go up in price.

      Delete
    2. Part of me wants to cheer at the idea that they could fix their screw-ups more quickly. Might go a long way to making the game more balanced and counter codex creep. However, they have failed to fix the problem with the FAQ, a Flier Supplement, and now a Codex and they barely ever update the FAQs. With the FAQs being just a simple PDF, I wonder how much they will change with a more complex system and even more will they be able to fix things without fucking them up.

Granted, my annoyance is driven by the local meta being "LOL Flier Spam" and with only a dozen players its not going to change without the rug being yanked out via a codex release.

  11. Wait so if Dwarfs are January then they are going to cram ALL the Nid kits into December? I call shenanigans on that one. So basically either Nids are going to STILL be missing models OR a slightly more believeable option is that Dwarfs are February and Guard are JUST March, not 2 months as suggested above (to be honest from their rumour set they dont have enough new models for 2 months as only 4 new kits have been mentioned)

Just saying, with the ammount of Nid kits that NEED to be released next month its bound to spill over into January.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Good call out. I can't see Tyranids getting 7-8 kits plus clam shells in one month. Unless they let wave two coincide with Dwarfs in January (which I doubt), it's likely the Tyranids get two months.

Who knows? Maybe they will let WHFB and 40k overlap, but I can't imagine that's good for Fantasy.

      Delete
    2. It's Christmas! What better time to dump a huge ton of models onto people!

      Delete
    3. When you say Nids need kits, are you referring to "they need updates to older kits". Because that happens very rarely, and I don't think Nids are a big enough army for them to update kits just yet.
Because as far as I know they have models for quite a lot at the moment.

So no need for two month release.

IG will probably have 2 months if the rumor of "Steel Legion" kits are true. Now I have my doubts about that, and I also don't think IG NEED two months. What they need is a trimming down of "needed kits" as their codex just have way to many options.

      Delete
    4. No what i mean is Nids are still missing:

      -Doom of Malantai
      -Parasite of Mortrex
      -Sky Slashers
      -Shrikes
      -Mycetic Spore
      -Harpy
      -Ymgarl Genestealers

And thats not including the Confirmed Hive Guard kit and the rumoured new Big bug kit so assuming that Shrikes/Primes and the Parasite are part of the new Warriors kit and the Doom is part of a new Zoanthrope kit thats still 8 kits (i think i have counted that right), far more than any normal release. then with the rumour that Gaunts are all going to be condensed into one kit thats 9.

      5 kits for December
4 kits for January + The 40k expansion books.

Almost identical to what they did for Dark Elves...hmmm...

so like i said, its either 2 months or we are still going to be missing models.

    1. Unless the Steel Legion rumors are true.

      Delete
    2. But Orks and Tyranids definitely need two months each. Not only to complete their missing entries, but also accommodate the obligatory new units, and update things to plastic (which is the case with the elimination of Finecast).

      Delete
    3. I think the current plastic possibilities more than make up a prospective release

      - Plastic Tankbustas\Flashgits
      - Plastic Kommandos
      - Plastic Meganobz
      - Plastic Warboss
      - Plastic Weirdboy
      - Plastic Deffcopter
      - Plastic Gretchin Big Gun
      - *new* Warbuggy\Wartrakk

Updating the existing Resin kits *alone* makes up for a big release, so its not a necessity that we're going to get lots of new units, we may see the Stompa moved into regular 40K - its no longer an obscene size.

      Delete
    4. Hope may is accurate for orks, that gives me plenty of Nid time before I have to start trading greenbacks for greenskins.

      Delete
    5. Hm, I'd disagree (and I'm an Ork player). IG need plastic ogryns, ratlings, storm troopers, commissars, regimental advisors, and primaris psyker. Most of the Ork line is in plastic already.

      Delete
    6. Most likely they will keep some kits to be released with supplemental books. The Eldar need a lot of conversion from resin to plastic(aspect warriors) as well as a few updates to ancient models(jetbikes). Most likely we will see this with supplemental books later.

My guess is that they are trying to fast track the core codexes out now and when that is done they will start putting out supplements with new models to keep the cash flowing(The spice/cash must flow!)

  17. BS on the Orc and Goblin book. We already learned that all books are going to be done in hard back before new ones are redone. That is straight from HSC at the beginning of the year. Im sure Tim has been accurate with many things in the past but that is not even on the radar.

    1. Let's see, just the missing / ancient stuff from the current codex out of my head:

      Bastonne
      Kamir
      Veterans
      Stormtroopers
      Psyker Battle Squad
      Ratlings (still metal)
      Penal Legion
      Rough Riders
      Colossus
      Medusa
      Hydra
      Griffon

      Rumored new additions:
      Salamander
      Thunderer
      Destroyer
      New large kit/Walker/Lightning

  21. But where is my Biel-Tan supplement? :(

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Supplements are not covered by the standard release schedule. Meaning it would not be on that list.
Also I personally dont think every "faction" and their grand-mother need a supplement.
They can be fun where they fit, but why did Black Legion get one? The ones who already ARE the CSM codex :P

  22. Is it possible that the majority of releases could go two months now?

A fair few armies have finecast that needs replacing and in the comments above me people have mentioned lots of kits that could be redone and then there's the obvious new units.

    Just wondering :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I imagine a lot of the new things in the finecast-to-plastic heavy releases will come as alternate weapon options or dual-kits with updated plastics. Like the new hive guard gun, and the rumored buff-oriented zoanthrope variant.

      Delete
    2. I doubt we will see a lot of multi month releases. Dark Elves was one of the armies who were basically Fine Cast ONLY. And it was really hard to make an army without buying countless of the same kit of 5 models.

For 40k this isn't AS big of a deal, where model counts tend to be lower. Eldar for instance has way to much Fine Cast, but didn't get two releases. What we have seen is that some FC kits get replaced, like the Wraith Guard, and then made a dual kit. (Which for a lot of it was the case with DEelves). Only exception would always be the Space Marines, as they are a money making scheme, and it made sense for GW to remake the Tactical Squad and Veteran boxes.

That said I do believe we might get a month here and there where we get replacement kits. Sort of when they first released Plastic heroes and Fine cast.
When the Sororitas finally get a book I think that will be with a full re-work of their models,
