Faeit's Rumor Tarot: Space Marines and Codex Supplements

Deep in the mind of Faeit's divinations, the storm raged on. The wispy tendrils of time turning into a maelstrom, threatening to tear his psyche apart. The possible futures launched deafening thunder claps and blinding torrents of fire, as massive chaos war machines unleashed their death upon the hapless worlds of the Imperium. This coming was now inevitable, and any means of hope or victory must be found, no matter how small and no matter at what cost.

Each week, Faeit's Rumor Tarot will take a look at what rumors came up among the myriad of games that were covered here on Faeit 212. On occasion I will be breaking any weekend developments that were discovered or revealed, so keep a watch out, for on the Faeit's Tarot, you never know what secrets there may be.

Codex Supplements
Its been revealed that Farsight, A Tau codex supplement is being released digitally this month. Rumors though earlier in the week, give us some insight into what is going on, and its all good.

all the codexes, even Chaos Space Marines and Tau

There is not going to be another Eldar one in 2013.

White Scars is one of the supplement codexes, and it is also complete (borderline printed) so logic dictates it'll be released a few weeks after the SM codex, but I don't have a street date for you.

Space marines will be getting 2 supplement codexes though by the end of 2013, so again... chances are white scars will be one of them.

For the Blood Angels and Space Wolves players, fear not you will be getting full codex support and not just supplements.  Read between those lines.

We are starting also to see a pattern, as Games Workshop is releasing its digital supplements a couple weeks earlier than its hardcover releases. This overlapping of release, will probably end up being very popular. So with that said, we can expect Farsight coming here later in July, while the hardcover will mostly likely be an August release.

Space Marines
Space Marines are next, and I expect this to be a huge release. Once again, power armoured armies will be pushing their way across our battlefields around the world. These rumors dig into some of that organization, allowing you to play armies like Salamanders without having to have Vulkan everytime.

the Space Marine special character changes to Combat Tactics still exist, but are also now available for purchase as an upgrade to a generic HQ allowing you to play Ravenguard without Shrike, or Salamanders without Vulkan.

The special characters usually also include some other more specific army-wide changes included in the replacement of Combat Tactics to make them still desirable, as they represent a specific company, within a different chapter, etc.

Space marines will be getting 2 supplement codexes though by the end of 2013

Lastly, Ultramarines are not the focus of the Space Marine book any more.  Instead the pages describe the book representing any of the second founding chapters, and many of the founding as well who converted to following the Codex Astartes.  Outside of the over-abundance of Ultramarine special characters it's not "their book" anymore, which means it leaves things open for them getting a dedicated supplement as well.

Rhino variants to include a command Rhino, a medic Rhino and an armoured recovery Rhino. Each of these can be purchased as upgrades for the basic Rhino and provide enhancements to their Space Marine squad. Dreadnoughts to provide bonuses to nearby units owing to their 'Inspiring Presence'. These developments are inline with the design philosophy behind the new Codex to promote synergies between units to increase the tactical depth of Space Marines.

Tyranids
Its exciting to know that Tyranids are on our list of codices to be getting an update, and are rumored to be after Space Marines. Whats new is that a codex supplement is being worked on. A genestealer cult faction would be fun and exciting to see, and bring back some of the old background. However, I am still thinking we may just start seeing Hive Fleet supplements, which could include the genestrealer cults.

I've heard about a supplement for tyranids, that they will be getting a genestealer cult supplement possibly something akin the recent GW tourny rules we saw at Warhammer World.

Dark Age
A new subfaction rumor hit this week, and its falls onto one of my favorite groups, the Outcasts. Dark Age really is one of those hidden gems, that has fun unique models and artwork, and an excellent ruleset.

An Outcast sub-faction is being released in Conflagration, the “Slavers of Chains Barrow”.

The Outcasts live outside of the cities in Samaria, living a life of freedom in the Wastelands, away from the religous zealots of the Forsaken.

If you do not know Dark Age, here is a link to learn more.
