Poll: How Old Are You?

Recently I attended the Grand Opening of the Games Workshop store here in Portland Oregon. I had posted up a bunch of photos of the event and had some curious comments on the post, that have been in the back of mind for a week or so.

That's jolly interesting. If a GW opened around here in the UK the customers would be mostly young fellows - under 16s, maybe an occasional adult player but certainly the minority. I wonder if the demographics represent the more competitive perspective the US has on games?

Something else is interesting as a long-time UK gamer - all of the people in your pics are adults. In the UK, GW stores are always full of nerdy 13-year-old boys. Going in as a grown man feels a bit weird, like you've walked into a youth club.

Perhaps this is why there's a perceived emphasis on competitive gaming in the US, because more of the people in the hobby are adults?

So I am curious, is the age of the average age of the gamers a factor on why there is a much heavier interest in competitive gaming in the here in the US than elsewhere?

This week I am running a poll along the left hand side of the blog to hopefully shed a little light on the subject.
