The Summer of Pain and Melancholy

Speculate what you will, Warhammer 40k really had a miserable release schedule. We were swept aside and Fantasy took control of the summer, with a very cool expansion, a campaign that promoted it like crazy, and a ton of model releases alongside a new codex. It really left the 40k players in the dust, sucking whatever drizzle of excitement we can get off the very few releases we had.

Yes, the Sisters of Battle came and went with little fanfare, and no models and a White Dwarf codex release. Otherwise, we saw a few dark eldar including the Razorwing Jetfighter. Overall its been painful, as 40k really is my primary game. Yes many people were still riding the Grey Knight wave, and will continue to do so, but that wave is really near its end.

The weather here in my part of the country was wet and rather cold for a summer, and no new releases that I just had to buy with tons of hype, so the summer has left a kind of Sour Taste in the mouth. There were just too many let downs, counting amongst them the Summer of Flyers and the Voidraven.

The Fall looks promising, and I fully expect us to be talking nothing but Necrons for the rest of the year in regard to new releases and a new codex. We only have 15 days until Games Day UK, perhaps that will break the 40k melancholy.

The pics are models done by Gareth Etherington, and they are very nicely done.
