A day of Remembrance 9-11

People that come and read here will very infrequently see or hear me veer from the path, purpose, and most importantly the subject of this blog. This will be one of those times.

The anniversary we remember today is for the people that lost their lives on this date, and for many of us, a world that changed in what seemed like a brief horrible moment. For many people it was the first time they really looked at the world beyond our own, it was a moment that showed us that anything that happens in the world can effect you. The world felt small, and very dangerous.

We held our breath on 9-11, and when we were able to finally breathe, everything had changed.

My life had changed. A personal close friend was called back to duty. His wife decided it was a good time for adultery divorce after he left. A marriage of 12 years just gone in a flash. He is still in the military today. A cousin, who after patrolling Baghdad during his stay in Iraq, has severe problems dealing with family and day to day life. Councilors and a Military legal team are helping him overcome his problems. Finally myself; who would of known that getting married to a Canadian citizen would bring down the wrath of Homeland Security, who apparently had to non-discriminate so they picked us out of a hat. After 6 months of paperwork, fingerprinting at the FBI offices, 2-3 hour interviews (interrogations), and $5,000 dollars in legal fees, the governments gave us the green light on our marriage. It was alot to do simply because we were an American and Canadian citizen getting married without government permission. Before 9-11 we simply would of had to fill out a piece of paper. Everything has changed.

From airport security to everyday thinking, 9-11 has changed the way we look and interact with the world. This is a day of solemn remembrance. We will never forget.
