Two Kill Teams

First up, the set includes two kill teams to get you started – the Fangs of Ulfrich (a pack of five Primaris Reivers from the Space Wolves Chapter) and Advance Team Starpulse (a team of ten Fire Warriors and accompanying Drones that fight for the T’au Empire). These kill teams both come with predetermined wargear and specialisms, enabling you to get stuck in as soon as you’ve assembled the miniatures. If you’re new to the game, this is an excellent way to get started.
Two booklets describe the background of the Fangs of Ulfrich and Advance Team Starpulse, so you can familiarise yourself with each kill team and learn how they fight – and their motivations for doing so.* Of course, if you’re feeling more ambitious, you can create your own kill team using these miniatures and guidelines in the Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team Core Manual that’s included in the Starter Set.

Kill Team Core Manual

This book will be familiar to existing players – in fact, it’s identical – but for new players, the Core Manual is very much the heart of the Starter Set. It contains all the background, game rules and playable missions, as well as the model datasheets and wargear profiles for each of the game’s factions. Armed with this essential book, you’ll be able to choose your kill team, select their specialisms and even generate names and personalities for each of its members! The Core Manual also features the full game rules and a number of open, narrative and matched play missions to sink your teeth into.**

Tactics Cards

One key aspect of Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team is the ability to use special Tactics to enact cunning strategies and augment the abilities of your specialists or other key members of your kill team. Using the right Tactic at the right time can give you a crucial advantage and swing the battle in your favour. The easiest way to keep track of the Tactics at your disposal is with Tactics cards. To that end, the Starter Set includes a full set of Tactics cards, matching all 36 universal Tactics featured in the Core Manual, as well as a further 22 cards that are available to the Fangs of Ulfrich and Advance Team Starpulse!

Gameboard and Scenery

Having models and knowing how to use them is one thing, but it never quite feels the same when the battlefield comprises a few books, vases and maybe the odd soda can. Thankfully, the Starter Set contains a double-sided, folding card gameboard to play on, as well as a whopping six frames of Sector Mechanicus scenery that you can use to build atmospheric industrial landscapes. Much better!

Everything You Need to Play!

As if all that wasn’t already enough stuff to get you going, the Starter Set includes all the dice you’ll need to play, as well as a 12” clear plastic ruler for measuring distances, and two double-sided sheets of card tokens for keeping track of in-game effects. No stone has been left unturned!

This fantastic set will be available to pre-order on Saturday, so if you haven’t yet stepped into the fast-paced, ultra-violent world of Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team, now’s the time – by which, of course, we mean this weekend is the time! If you’re looking to get a headstart while you wait for your shiny Starter Set to arrive, you can learn how to play in our handy video over on the Kill Team website.

While we’re on the subject of Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team, we’ve got some other news for you. If you’re a fan of the interactive Kill Team Command Roster (and if you’re not familiar with it yet, check it out – it’s super-useful), you’ll be pleased to know that it has been updated. The roster now includes all the additional Commanders and special operatives from Kill Team: Elites. What are you waiting for? Head on over to the site and add your elite models to your roster now!

* Fair warning though – reading them may cause you to become attached to the warriors in your kill team, and if the name of the game is anything to go by, they may not be around forever…
